We travelled to the shores of Lake Titicaca. Of the more than 30 islands on the lake, the best known are the Uros Floating Islands named after the Uros people who inhabit them. We motored out onto the tranquil waters of the lake. It tooks ua about an hour to one of the floating islands.
The floating islands are constructed of the totora reeds growing along the lake shore. The Indians who live on the floating islands of los Uros fled onto the lake about 500 years ago. They made islands from reeds and constantly rebuild them, as the reeds rot.
