I havenīt made an entry in a while, because not much has happend lately. After the Volcano excursion we left for Granada the next morning. A mad dash to the ferry and a 2 hour bus ride and we were there. In Granada I got really sick. We went to the farmacia and got some more Abendazol and I started taking cipro as well. That all worked and in a couple of days I was better and we left Granada for Tegucigalp, Honduras, where we were going to spend the night, but we decided to keep going to San Pedro Sula. For the bus to Tegucigalpa, we had to take a taxi at 3AM to Managua. At the Tica Bus station in Managua we met a girl from Germany nammed Julie. In San Pedro Sula we all decided to go to the same hotel. The next morning we all left for Tela together. In Tela we ended up with a huge room with an extra bed that was kind of pricey, so we decided weīd just all stay there and split the cost 3 ways. The next day we decided to book a kayaking trip and check out the botanical gardens near town. Man did that suck! After wasting a good 3 hours there, we came back and tried to take care of some business: banking, internet and such. Finally getting back to our room, we noticed our beds had been stripped of their sheets...odd?? But we were hungry so we went down to eat...oh? Whatīs this, they are kicking us out of our room. I guess there was some confusion when we got there and Julie only paid for one night and they thought that meant weīd only stay one nice, even though we made resarvations for 4. The one guy (NOT the owner) was really nice. He offered us to stay in a house they have for rent for the same price as our room. After bitching about it for a while and trying to decide what to do, we decided to check out the house. It was pretty nice...we were going to get it for 45, but Julie managed to talk him down to 30. So now we are staying in a 3 bedroom house for 30 bucks a night. Pretty sweet! Two bathrooms, living room, kitchen...I canīt complain!
Anyway, today we went on this kayaking trip through mangroves. Which I thought would be really cool. However...IT SUCKED TOO!!! So far Honduras is not looking good. The trip seemed like it would go from 8:15 to 3, which we thought was a lot of time, but we didnīt realize weīd spend most of it doing nothing. Right away it sucked, because there were like 20 dutch people crammed in our jeeps with us. How are you supposed to drift quietly through mangroves, with 20 fucking people!! It took about 15 minutes to pick everyone up, 10 minutes to check in, half an hour to get to the restaurant, where everyone had to order for lunch and then another 5-10 minutes to get to the mangrove place. So we finally get in the kayaks and some luck strikes, they are spliting us up into groups. Just four kayaks in our group, yay! Julie and the guide in one, Jess and I in another, another German girl and her mom in another and a Spanish couple in the fourth. But then the trip ended up sucking. We went up the main canal a little ways and then for like 5 minutes up maybe...4 canals and then went back! The water smelled like sewage and there was farms and shit around, it wasnīt wild at all! We saw one crocodile and an Iguana, for like 5 seconds. Thatīs it nothing else. No monkeys, no birds, nothing! Then after about 2 hours of padaling around slowly in sewage water doing nothing, we went back to the beach and wated for the dutch convoy to return. By the time weīre on our way itīs only like 12:30??? Uhm, where are the other 2.5 hours going to go? I know: sitting on a beach doing nothing! Finally we left and were home. Time to wash the sick sewage stench out of our hair.
