Pereira is a pretty nice city. There is nothing spectacular here (at least as far as I can tell) but there is a lot in the surrounding areas. Yesterday we were at the Ecotermales San Vicente.
The Ecotermales San Vicente are the most amazing hot springs I have ever been to (not that I've been to that many.) The setting is probably the best part. It is in a lush mountainous valley, completely covered in lush tropical rainforest. There is the main area with: restaurant, cabins, change rooms, snack bar and the more commercialized and cooler pools. After getting acquainted we decided to check out the other pool up the path from the main ones. This pool is very hot. It was hard to stay in for longer then 10 minutes.
Once we were bored of that, we decided to check out the mud bath area. It's not really a mud bath, but a mud treatment. There is a huge pool and a guy scoops out mud and rubs it all over you, then you wait till it dries and jump in and rinse off. I was a bit of a disbeliever t first, but after having it done, I have to say it is really nice on the skin. After having our fill of the pools and the mud "terapia" we decided to get dressed and take one of the nature hikes. The trail lead down a into spectacular rainforest overhanging a naturally hot creek, with multiple pools, nestled in a deep gorge. The best part was that no one went down there! So we stripped down to our undies and jumped in.
The day before the Hot Springs, we went to the Parque Nacional del Cafe. Which has little to do with coffee anymore. It's really just a name for an amusement park, but it was still very interesting. We took a little train tour around the place and walked around some of the nature trails. By far the most interesting part was the Bamboo forest. Today we spent hanging around and taking care of some business. Tomorrow we will go to Valle de Cocora. I am very excited about Cocora, it's one of the things I am most looking forward to in Colombia. More thumbnails ...
