We woke up and got an early start to the day after a power breakfast that Dan Dahl cooked! We took the train about an hour to the coastline to see the beaches and Japanese temples from the Shinto religion. I typed it into Wikipedia and it gave a great description of the religion if you are interested in learning more. It is basically an offshoot of Buddhism. We hiked for about an hour or two up an over a mountain exploring all of the different shrines. Please note there were no mountains in Florida, so our calves and quads paid the price the next day. We watched the local fisherman bring in their catches, local shellfish, mini conchs, and other things I had never seen before mini conchs and other things I had never seen before. We tried bbq conch, soba, and miso soup for lunch. From there, it was back on the train to China Town in Yokohama, see the picture of the roasted chicken. Our friends, Dan and Shoko had tickets to a grand opening to a high class Italian restaurant. We showed up in shorts and t-shirts and were barely allowed in
Another temple
. Once in, it was an ocean of short japanese business people in suits. Those of you who know about many asian cultures and their lack of spacial awareness and inability to form lines will appreciate this. The food came out on platters and placed on a big table in the middle of the restaurant. It was a complete free for all and mayheim to get any food. Note, there are no fire codes in Japan so you can imagine what it was like. It was like these people had been with out food for a week. Being the biggest person in the resaurant did not give me an advantage because I was trying to be respectful and take turns and let other people in...but it back fired, I was being elbowed by women and children and was left with an empty plate. After eventually getting food, it was pretty good, and of course we ate the italian food with chopsticks. The next day we spent the day dong kid stuff with Dan's seven year old daughter Ashley who is adorable. We went to the park, ate Korean BBQ and just hung out. Tomorrow we are going to stay in Tokyo, eat sushi, and drink some Asahi. We will tune you in from Tokyo.
