We started off the day by heading towards Leifang Pagoda and ensured ourselves plenty of time to view the tower and its surroundings. We ended up renting some city bicycles and set off on our way towards the pagoda at the south end of Xihu. Since bicycles were not allowed on the pedestrian walkways along the lake we proceeded on Nanshan Lu.

Upon reaching the pagoda, we encountered a small pond filled with little turtles bathing in the sun. This time the pagoda was open for us to visit and we took advantage. The current pagoda is a newly constructed version as the old one had collapsed due to disrepair and neglect back in the 1920s. We observed the old ruins below the current structure and flipped some coins as part of a donation drive at the old pagoda. After viewing the history of Leifang Pagoda we ascended via a modern elevator up to the 4th floor where we would then reach the upper levels through a stairwell. From the top, we were able to view the city of Hangzhou and West Lake from the top of the tower. Since it was winter, much of the greenery had given way to a dusty brown from the visible tree branches.
