When the British set up a permanent colony on Penang, the rich and rulling clases established a Hill Station 700m above sea level at the top of Penang Hill. This was so that they could live away from the busy hustle and trade of the port. As a result on the top of Penang Hill there are many fabulous buildings and hotels which over look fantastic panoramic views of the city below. In the 1920's and 30's the British Goverment built a railway which connected the Hill Station with the city below. This railway is still going today! It takes half an hour to slowly climb up the hill, but when you get to the top you get to look over the city and the surrounding area. The climate also gets a lot coller at 700m's, which is a nice break from the hot and sweaty city below!
