Well I know this is long overdue! It has been a crazy past month! For those that may not have heard following Kevin's visit to Costa Rica I flew home for the holidays to surprise some friends and family. I spent just under 3 weeks at home in the cold and have now returned to Costa Rica. I have a lot to fill you in on. To start, my AMAZING vacation with Kevin!

Kevin arrived in Costa Rica and was pretty much thrown to the wolves in terms of culture shock and being overwhelmed. He arrived in the afternoon, right after my students were dismissed for the day so it was prefect for me because I was able to go to the airport and pick him up. It was so surreal to actually see him! It was really exciting. From there we went to my apartment to drop bags and then we headed back to San Jose to pick up bus tickets for the next morning for us. We had to go to the bus station. He got a little tour of San Jose and saw what the city was like, it isn't the cleanest city in the world. After getting our tickets we returned to Escazu to visit my school. He got a full tour of the elementary campus. He even snuck in some time to shoot some hoops on the basketball court outside. Lets just say my skills have definitely diminished since I have played last. After the tour we headed over to my directors house, which is pretty much right on campus. It was our holiday celebration for the WHOLE staff. The house was packed, music was playing and there were people all around. He was able to meet some coworkers, my principal and school director. We hung out for a while and then headed to a well know local restaurant, Laly's with my roommate and another teacher. Kev had his first taste of local food. Some chicken and rice! He even tried my patacones with guacamole and salsa on it AND liked it! After that he was ready for bed!

The following morning we headed back into San Jose to catch our bus to La Fortuna/Arenal. It was a couple hours on a packed bus through the twisty, turny roads. Once we arrived it was pouring down rain so the first mission was to find a place for lunch to wait out the rain. We found a small restaurant for lunch then headed to our hotel/lodge that was a little bit outside of town. We had a cute little lodge looking right at the volcano. It was amazing! It was so peaceful! After settling in it was time for some hot springs. We had decided long before our trip that we were going to start with hot springs so that we could totally relax at the beginning of our trip. We went to a resort called The Springs. This is a resort that they visited during the show The Bachelor in Brad Womack's season. They have a variety of different natural hot springs at various temperatures. We tried them all out! It was so crazy because as we were hopping from one pool to the next there was no one there! It was perfect! He hung out for the rest of the evening totally relaxing under the stars!

The next morning we awoke refreshed for our next linning! I have been waiting for this since I arrived in Costa Rica. It is a must-do when in Costa Rica. We went through a company called EcoGlide. They were great. We went from platform to platform through the rainforest and then also had great views over the city of La Fortuna. They also have a Tarzan Swing where you step off of a platform and drop and then swing like Tarzan. Kevin was a little more hesitant than me, but he did it and it was awesome! In true rainforest form we had rain for the last bit of our tour. We had a great time! We then headed into town for lunch and some shopping. We finished off day 2 back at The Springs relaxing at the swim up bar enjoying views of Arenal Volcano.

The next morning we set out on our own adventure to the La Fortuna Waterfall. This is a waterfall you can take a taxi to just outside of town. You can hike down to the base and even swim in some of the side pools. There was no swimming in the main pool under the waterfall unless you were crazy! We took a little dip in the water but it was freezing water. Not sure why it was so cold. After the refreshing dip we had the hike back up all the stairs we had come down. We headed into town for some lunch and then headed back to our hotel to get ready for our hike around Arenal.

We lucked out for our hike because we were the only ones on the tour. So we ended up with a private tour! We started off our tour by seeing something like a tapir, I don't remember the name. Our tour guide said it was pretty rare to see it. We continued on the hike seeing a few small things as we went along. Then we heard this loud screeching noise and it was a group of spider monkeys fighting up in the trees. We hurried to catch a better look. We were able to get an alright look at them. We then continued on to see some different types of birds. As we were nearing the end of the hike we saw another group of spider monkeys. This group had 2 babies that were swinging and playing from the adults tail. We sat and watched them for a while. They were so cute playing. As we were turning to continue walking I said, "well Kevin now you have seen your monkeys, now we just need a snake" He had a few things he really wanted to see on his visit. Immediately after I said that our tour guide said, "Like this snake right here!" I didn't believe him and he asked me if I saw the huge black snake right in front of us! There, right in the path was a 8-10 foot black snake! It was crazy! If he hadn't spotted it, I would have turned and stepped right on it. That was a good finish to our tour. We then made our way back to the hotel to pack up and get ready for our next adventure, Puerto Viejo and then on to Panama!

I will continue later. I just wanted to give you a little update!

Hasta Luego!
