We then continued on to look at other areas of the site. There are many burial sites...some very eloquent like the Treasury for the rich and others very plain for the poor
. We also walked to a theater and to other parts of Petra with our "guide," and then we climbed a mountain that took us to the monastery. It was about 900 steps if I remember correctly and I was scared that my knee would not hold up......miraculously I was in better shape than I thought!
The view at the top of the mountain was amazing and the monastery was as well....once again, I do not know how people back in the day figured out a way to build such an awesome structure! After two cups of sugary tea we headed back down for lunch. After lunch we walked around some more and then headed back to the hotel and onto the bus for home. It's impossible to describe what I saw at Petra so I'm going to leave my blog at this but everyone should visit!!
Wow...Petra definitely qualifies as one of the 7 wonders of the world! We started out from our hotel and walked to the entrance then proceeded on to "the siq" which leads to "the Treasury." The rock formations stretched up to the sky and the sandstone rock naturally made creative designs that were so beautiful. Through one of the narrow passages we passed through appeared the Treasury....oh my goodness was it ever breathtaking!!! It's mind-blowing to think that human beings made this enormous, detailed, beautiful formation more than 2000 years ago!!! I don't know how they did it...there are "steps" leading up to the top (they start from the top and go down) but to me they don't look like steps so I don't know how they chiseled through rock while not even being able to stand on something solid!
