Today we flew from Lima, Peru to Cusco, Peru. We took a small commercial plane and the flight was just about an hour long. It is absolutely beautiful here. I love looking at all the houses on the hill/ mountains. It is very high in elevation; about 11,200 feet above sea level. Its not very easy to adjust to the altitude so we have been taking medication for altitude and drinking a lot of water. But I still feel very tired from it.

Once we arrived in Cusco, we took a bus to the Plaza De Armas where we visited the Cathedral there. The Cathedral has three Cathedrals within it and has one of the most outstanding examples of goldwork. It is made of carved wood with gold leaf over it. The Cathedral also houses many paintings of local artists of the time, including a Last Supper depicting Jesus and the twelve apostles feasting on guinea pig, which is a traditional delicacy here.

Since the medication for altitude is a diuretic, Dad made friends with two other guys and everywhere we went today they were always using the bathrooms. The next stop was the Inca ruins called Sacsawhuaman (yes, sexy woman). The tour guide was leading everyone around using these headsets so people could hear easier. Dad of course had to go to the bathroom, and his two amigos went too. While they were in the bathroom they could still hear the tour guide, Dagmar, talking and she was telling one man's wife that the guys were "The Bano Boys" meaning "The Bathroom Boys" in English. So the Bano boys have now formed their posse and are very excited to be apart of the elite "bathroom going" group. Im so proud, Dad.

After a visit to Sacsawhuaman, Dad and I walked around the Plaza de Armas, which is known as "the square of the warrior". There are many little shops and its a very fun place to be. All the roads that are in Cusco are so narrow.... they can only fit one car and barely that. There are policia everywhere directing traffic, hanging out on motorcycles and I even saw one giving a ticket. Most of the policia we saw were women which is also interesting.

Tonight we are relaxing for our BIG day ahead of us tomorrow. We are headed to Machu Picchu. Im so excited to hike and explore this beautiful place. Its also lower in altitude than Cusco so Im hoping that will help with altitude sickness, and perhaps the Bano boys will find some relief.

Hasta Maņana!

I wanted to try it but we didn't get a chance! We are eating tons of local foods - really fresh fruits, vegetable and meats!

No, but I think there is a secret handshake....

I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog Ashley - I can enjoy your travel adventure without needing a bathroom!
