Wind blowing through my hair, mist in my face, the sun beating down on the yellow sand, the sounds of screams coming from the little kids running away from the waves, birds calling, friends laughing, the smell of sunblock and salt water in the air, the first time you dip your toes in the water and to your surprise its freezing cold.  These are my first memories of the ocean with so many little details that I don't ever want to forget.  I have never really seen the ocean until I came to Peru.  For me, seeing it has left me feeling like a child who really hasn't experienced anything and I keep thinking what else is out there that I've missed out on.
I went to the beach called Punta Hermosa and although it may not be the nicest I will never forget it.  There were so many things going on that I must have looked like I had ADD.  My friends and I choose a spot to lay our towels and we sat and watched the surfers tackle the waves,  the venders sell ice cream and beer, the families building sand castles with big smiles on their faces, the seagulls diving down into the water for their meals, the waves crashing against the rocks and the mist bursting into the air. I've never been so relaxed in my life; but how can you not be with the sand in your toes and the whole ocean to view.
The ocean water is freezing cold because of the Humboldt Current and the waves are so strong they can just slam you down to the ground and sweep you under.  For the first time EVER, I actually swam in the ocean.  We all slowly lined up and practiced our jumping before going in deeper in.  The braver ones would dive under the waves and us chickens would try and jump over them like in a wave pool.  Most the time we would end up knocked down due to the strong tide.  Warning for first timers: Avoid rocks and try not to get salt water in your eyes; it burns.
I have found that I am totally in love with the ocean.  I know there is no way that I will not end up living near one in my future.  I will never forget my first visit to the ocean, it is one of those things you will cherish forever.  Oh and in a final note: Surfers are very sexy.  :D
