Angkor Thom is a city seeped deep into Hindu mythology. The four cardinal gates are flanked by a row of devas & asuras holding a nine headed naag churning the ocean for amrit. On top of the gates seat massive quad murtis of Shiv, flanked by Brahma & Vishnu. It is said that the 4th head belongs to the last emperor and all the giant faces are said to resemble his likeness.

The exquisite Bayon temple sits at the centre of the Angkor Thom complex representing the mountain used to churn the ocean. The temple itself is a photographers heaven and is where several Tomb Raider scenes were shot. Forget going to India for your pilgrimage. The Thom complex is the largest Hindu religious structure built in the world (Angkor Wat is the largest single structure).
