5:30 am - waiting for the bus to the Pantanal...
6:30 am - bus finally shows up...woohooo!
11:00 am - arrive at the entrance to the Southern Pantanal
11:30 am - arrive at Fazenda Pousada Santa Clara

Itīs a stark contrast to the beaches and tropical forests. The area is really dry with random scattered pools of water - all rich with birds and caiman though.

After a good lunch had a boat ride, saw lots of herons, kingfishers, caiman, toucans, macaws and iguanas.

The guide dude (Johnny) had amazing eyesight! Stopped on a small island in the river to do some piranha fishing - we were knee deep in the river water with a caiman swimming not too faraway but nobody seemed to care! We even managed to catch a few - those James Bond films over exaggerate the ferocity of the piranhas.

Akshay caught a fish which managed to get off the hook and bounce itself along the beach back in to the water. Silly Akshay ran after it to catch it with his hands but Johnny told him to let go since it had some sort of spike on it.

The pousada disappointed us (well mainly Akshay) with the caju juice as it was so diluted!

Fresh piranhas (the ones we caught) for dinner!

What is that?!
Had to look up what Caimans are...Scary stuff! Since when did Roohi start eating meat? How was the fish? Did you have to cook it yourself?
