26th January 2013 Australia Day...... Today was very interesting to say the least, we started the Nullarbor and stopped in to The Head of the Great Australian Bight, which is all brand new, excellent sealed road in
(about 12kms) The Admittance/ Interpretive Centre is very nicely done with touristy things, cafe, where you pay $12 each peak (whale season from May to Oct) but we paid $5 each off season and had the whole place to ourselves there are 2 scenic lookout walks down beautifully made boardwalks one over to Twin Rocks to the east and the other to Bunda Cliffs to the west, truely
beautiful to behold.
These awe inspiring cliffs with the crashing waves eating slowly away at the face of them making caves and eroding the sheer heights.
They say that in peak time there are up to 170 Southern Right Whales may gather in the season, Wow how good would that be?? ...hmmm we’ll be back and that time corresponds with the wildflower season and probably heaps more people!! It’s so quiet everywhere we go this time of year, probably because of the heat but we’ve done our homework and the weather prediction was at least 7 days of 22 – 24 degs so that why we went when we did.
Ohhhhh now the best bit.....we found the most incredible spot in the history of free
camping!!! Not in the Camps book, not in any of the internet sites, not in CMCA. The previous night as usual we Google Maps along the areas we want to stay and literally “drive” around inspecting as much as we can, it’s the best tool we have to find good spots. But again we couldn’t
find the particular spot we had chosen, but we recognised the entrance to a dirt road with no signs just a very distinct “pedestrian crossing” ( realised when we got there it is an emergency landing strip for the flying doctor!) -31.576854, 130.164127 are the GPS coord's.......................
But we parked the bus and took a walk up what looked like any other dirt road, couldn’t see the end but not far up, there opened up to a parking area and sheer 90 mt cliffs just dropping off the area just jaw dropping & breath taking!!!
We couldn’t believe our luck, Ash went back and got the bus and we parked our beautiful (motor) home with in 3 mts of the cliff....dropping to the crashing glorious aqua sea!!!! Photos?..........my
lord I couldn’t stop everywhere you looked every change of light, every angle
of the bus.................
RSI of the clicking finger and the computer is groaning with the amount of pics and videos
I took in 24 hours, then we drove around to what we realized was the stop we were looking for! Within view of where we parked to take photos, looking back to the bus and it was all touristy fenced off viewing spots and hardly any areas to park.
Our spot had heaps of room and we watched cars, vans, motorhomes coming and going from it all day but we had our spot to ourselves!!!
Heck we really wish you were all here to share it with us.
