Here we are 6 weeks since we left Albury, hasn't it
flown, we've already met the most fantastic, caring generous people in person
as well as via the internet on forums. Having just left 2 of them Dot & Ian
from Two Wells, we enjoyed their hospitality and generosity for the last week
and a half another great couple we hope to cross paths with in the future, as
they will head off as soon as they’ve sold their farm.

It was a huge advantage to us to have mains power and
water as the weather was so hot, we even had one day of 48 Degrees which really
tested out the aircon!! It didn’t miss a beat the whole day. That was a relief
to say the least, we could have gone into their house but the girls had to be
kept cool too, so we won’t leave the aircon going if we’re not there.

As good as it was at Dot & Ian’s we were keen to take
advantage of the next cool day to head up and around to the Yorke Peninsula
where it is a bit cooler than the Adelaide area.  We did some major researching to find a nice free
camp on the coast. I asked on one of the forums if anyone had firsthand
knowledge of one. I had some really good replies and Google earth showed us the
rest, being able to see these places in 3D is fantastic, seeing what the roads
are like, seeing if it would be OK for our bus....11 mts and 13 ton doesn’t fit
just anywhere, so Google Earth is invaluable to research. After all that, we
decided on a huge beach front Free Camp just 5km from Ardrossan on the east
coast of Yorke Peninsula about half way down. This particular free camp was not
in the usual Camp Guides that I frequent. ( Camps6 Book,,,
and CMCA Geowiki.) So it was local knowledge that found it........(it has since
been put in CMCA Geowiki)

Anyway Ardrossan was every bit as lovely as it looked on
Google Earth!  It’s such a relaxed and visitor
friendly place with big rig and van parking just at the top of the Cliffside ocean
where there is a park for kid’s picnic area all within very close walk to the
main street. It has long long stretches of easy access to the shores, albeit mostly
high cliffs and lovely vistas. Ardrossan is small enough to be country friendly
and big enough to have pretty much everything we’ll need in shops. Then it’s
just 5 minutes to our camp.....

The camp doesn’t
have any facilities and is pretty exposed to wind and sun, But we need
the solar panels to catch the sun anyway and I’ve decided that wind is sooooooo
much better than forty bloody 8 degrees heat, it at the very least cools
everything with winds and breezes from the sea.

 We were told this
is a very popular Blue Swimmer Crab area and this particular spot is well used
for just that by the off we trudged into the far reaching low
tide flats this morning, with very little knowhow and a whole lotta enthusiasm
for our 1st Crabbing experience!!! We’ve watched folk out on the low
tide flats with rake in hand and a storage container floating along on a string

So off we went, with a garden rake and a bucket!!!!! Crabbing
rakes are big claw like tools and not a whole lot similar to a garden rake, but
 off we went anyway!!

4 or 5 pair of local crabbers were already out there and
we crossed the path of a lovely young couple who asked if we had any luck and I
explained that we didn’t have a clue! Pride be dambed! Pride has no place in
our lives anymore........ Low and behold these lovely kids showed us just how
to crab,,, even with a garden rake!
So off we went and Ash headed through the sea weed and was alerted to the presents
of a crab by a nip to the foot!!! Yikes,  even with surf shoes on it smarted, he poked
and prodded in the weeds until out came a crab hanging ferociously to that
confounded rake.......Yay, it was promptly dumped into the bucket which I had
following along. #1.... then not 10 minutes later I spied one in the weeds
pointing it’s claws to the sky, which Ash eventually convinced it to latch onto
the garden rake, this one bigger than the last.
To say the least we were rapt. Beginners luck??? Tomorrow will tell,
cause we will head out again, this time with a real crabbers rake we bought
from wonderful Ardrossan. So look out crabs of Australia, we have our eye in!!

We headed in to town for some milk and looked into a few
jobs here if they were available to no avail, so then we drove up to have a
look at the views from the quarry look out, huge heaps of soil from the mining
of Dolomite, just over the main road from our camp.

Later in the day Ash went fishing with no luck but he
enjoyed it anyway, I set up my Chair on the dune and watched in the afternoon
                   Ahhhh what a glorious day.

Well it looks like both of you have settled into the grey nomad style of living and are enjoying every second of it.
We start our adventure tomorrow as we are heading south from Toowoomba to where ever we decide to stop, and we are looking forward to it with nervous anticipation.
