Bath time!!!!
Here in Baños sat at the foot of the Volcano
Tungurahua (the one I mentioned from Riobamba, the one that was
active!!), I have to wonder if it is going to erupt or not, I am
guessing it is not going to just yet, but you never know.
Baños is great, a real nice place, but I will let you be the
judge of that, from the photos. Have been hiking around and about, and
seen a really good view of the volcano, which is still spewing dark
smoke, which if you are not careful you might think are clouds.
I hiked up the mountain opposite it and got a real good view, although
there were still some clouds. The view down the valley was also good,
and the only bad thing about the hike was the vicious dogs that came
out of the huts on the way up, although once I had found a big stick I
was not so worried about them. Nothing happened, which was good as it
would have been a shame to have had to hit a dog, and I would have
preferred to hit the owner, who of course did not come out!!!
As well as hiking, I rented a bike and cycled down to the Orient, which
is what they call the Jungle here (about 60km), loads of waterfalls
along the way, and for the most part downhill, although the last 15km
had quite a bit of uphill, which I was not prepared for, and really
struggled to do. A real waste of time anyway, as the only think left to
see is the Town of Puyo, which has absolutely nothing to see, even the
church was closed!!!
Here is Baños, I can recommend a good
hostel, Timara, 4$, for a single room, great views, a good kitchen, and
very friendly owners, an English Ecuadorian couple. Very laid back and
good for taking it easy, no DVDs though :-)
Ah well my South
American traveling days are drawing to a close, and I think that I am
going to Quito tomorrow and leave it at that... who boo...
PS
Finally got the photos to load, so here they are, including the ones I took of the go-karting that they do as part of the annual festival, there was one accident while I was there, with the kart plowing into the crowd!!! No brakes and must be going 80kph at max speed, yeah, great fun!!!! :-)
Well my lovelies, only one more entry from SA to go :-( All great things, eh....
