7.00 pm ,its about 17C and raining. Last week it was 31C today nearly half that, and prediction is wet all week but despite that lots of things to do and see. Must be mirroring whats happening in Coff's Harbour right now.
Today was a bit of a recovery session arriving at our accomodation late last night after 3 flights and 24 hours of travelling. Picked up a hire car at the airport and navigated through Cape Town using the trusty NavSat.
Trip fairly uneventful and almost everything went smoothly except the dodgy food in Qantas cattle class which gave me a bit of the old crook commic cuts.
Pretty impressed with the newly refurbished Jo'burg O.R. Tambo airport, everything gearing up to the 2010 Soccer World Cup. SA customs and all very efficient and well organised.
First impressions of Cape Town very favorable although we didn't drive through the shanty town at the edge of the airport. We're staying in a new ritzy part of the town called the Cape Quarter in de Waterkand (waterside) district. It just so happened that the complex we're in had its gala opening launch the night we arrived so they had a 20 piece swing band (coincidently called the Paul Cooper orchestra for those that know Paul Cooper in Aus - jail joke) in the Cape Quarter Piazza.
Already experienced some great food and service and busy making plans for the next few days.
Shopping very good and the girls were out all arvo stimulating the local economy. The area we're in is a bit like the Rocks area of Sydney or the Bay area of San Fransisco with obviously a distinct colonial African character. Very pleasant.
Booked into a restaurant in the piazza at 7.30 so I'm being giving the hurry up as there is evidently more entertainment planned with some classy fashion parade and funky music, so i better go and tidy up.
