Where I stayed
South Africa we strongly recommend to you all, particularly at this time of year when there are not too many people at tourist sites, it has exceeded our expectations and been a wonderful start to our RTW trip. The people are friendly, the food/wine fantastic, sites spectacular and game plentiful.
Cape Town and the surrounding area is a mixture of city and natural beauty. We went up Table Mountain, walked around the National Botanical Garden, took a tour to Cape Point via The Cape of Good Hope and a beach with African Penguins and seals (stinky but lovely). We ate out far too often (thank god we haven't seen a set of scales for two weeks), had a lovely wine tasting day (you must see the photo of Rach passed out on someone's lawn at the end of it) and stroked Cheetahs (they purr!)
Johannesburg was a place where we were advised not to leave our hotel, so we booked a lovely one called Fairlawns and hid in their spa and restaurant for two days. We also met up with some extended family of Guy's for a meal. Our hotel before our flight to Hong Kong is not worth a mention...
Londolozi safari was excellent. We won't bore you with too much detail about animals (yet) but we have been blown away by close encounters with leopards, lions with 3-month cubs, elephants, giraffes, hippos and rhinos. The accommodation and food were five star gourmet standard (just too much - even if you miss lunch you're not hungry by dinner time).
Best wishes to you all.
