Hello from Guatemala,
Things are going well so far. No problems, and lots of fun. I met a traveling companion in Cancun the first night I was there. We went to the ruins at Chichen Itza near Cancun, and it was a really worthwhile day trip. The ruins were spectacular, and we climbed the main temple for some great photos. (pics coming) The temple complex is in great shape and it was not crawling with tourists. My digital camera is working like a champ. I got an extra large memory card and reader before I left Atlanta, so as soon as I can I'll e-mail the images, (and find an internet cafe that is capable) After relaxing a few more days in Cancun, we went to Belize. Belize City is a bit more expensive than I thought. (More on Belize soon) But is has beautiful beaches and was very warm. I heard there is snow back home. Any truth to the rumors? Itīs been 80-85 here everyday and sunny, of course. No complaints! I am in Flores, Guatemala now. We are going to the Mayan ruins at Tikal tomorrow. We'll stay over night there so we can get up at sunrise and see the lost city through the mist and fog. Tikal has been one of the places on my list for a long time, so I am psyched to see it. Lucy and I are having a wonderful time so far. The room in Guatemala is $5 a night. Not bad, it includes a shower - with hot water - a rarity in Central America. After Tikal, we will lounge here for a while and then explore other parts of Guatemala before further travel. More soon........
