Tonight we had a going away party at the Tracey House (thanks Doug and Mary).  We had a BBQ and fire on their patio that overlooks the Okanagan Valley.  It was kind of bitter sweet as it was an amazingly nice day in the valley, but also the last evening we would have here for a year.  Doug cooked an awesome roast and made sure everyone had seconds or thirds of dessert; I think Cale ate an entire cheese cake to himself.    Just another great night with close friends and family.

With only a few hours before we leave the reality of the trip is starting to set in.  Soon we will leave for a trip that will no doubt change the way we perceive the world.  The planning and dreaming was one thing, but tomorrow the planning is over and the adventure begins.  The biggest surprise of the evening was seeing how genuinely happy, and perhaps jealous, our friends and family are for us having the opportunity to take some time and see the world.

Leaving our lives in Canada feels a bit strange, but we have no doubt it is the opportunity of a life-time.  The last week we've been reminded by the famous quote by Saint Augustine - "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page".  We've both been able to see a fair amount of the world (Arik lived in Germany and has travelled throughout the US, Western Europe, and Central America.  Charis has seen parts of the US, Mediterranean, Mexico, UK, and Thailand.) but even so there are so many countries to see and pages to read.
There were a few promises to meet up - you know who you are - and we really hope they are fulfilled.  As Mr. Augustine suggests traveling is great, but there is something extra special about experiencing a new culture with long time friends.

Regardless of if we are ready, tommorow morning we drive to Vancouver to make some last minute purchases and meet-up with more friends before we board our first flight out of Canada.  Good bye Great White North!
