Where I stayed
Ramada Plaza Herradura is our hotel and everyone has been really nice and helpful, although the exchange rate kinda sucked at 530colones to the dollar. We breakfasted in the hotel to a fantastic array of fruits. Brendan got up the courage to order in spanish and ended up with a very nice ham omelet. After that we hopped on one of the local buses down to the center of San Jose to see the town. We stopped at the cathedral which my little brother would appreciate as it was dedicated to Merced. After that we had a walk down Paseo Colon, and avenida central enjoying the sights and sounds and trying to avoid looking like tourists. Apparently Brendan and I looked German or English or even confusingly Argentinean whenever I happened to open my mouth to speak Spanish. Stops today included: Teatro Nacional, el Museo de Oro Precolombiano, and also the Central Market.
The Museo de Oro Pre-colombiano was actually quite phenomenal. Lots of great exhibits with very informative narratives. Lots of pictures to come as soon as I can get to a computer with the upload capabilities.
We had lunch at the Central Market at a local stall where we had our first typical Costa Rican fare of rice, beans and protein ( Fish for Brendan, Chicken for me). The best thing about it was as always the Coke Cola. I know, I know… Ariela… Coke is hardly Costa Rican, but I beg to differ. Here it comes in not only the glass bottles which are awesome, but it is also made with REAL sugar. So while Brendan drinks up his coffee, I will be having the best soda pop on planet earth J
Aside from all that goodness we also got our vouchers for Monteverde hand delivered to us. Hooray! Lastly we went out to dinner at La Gallera. A really amazing restaurant where we were served really great Beef and Chicken skewers along with the most buttery Sea Bass. To top this off we got two fantastically tasty tortilla medallions and Brendan polished off a mountain of seafood (Oysters, crab, shrimp etc.). It was amazing and I am sure we wont be eating again for over 2 hrs!
