Not a lot to report today. Putting on the miles. Stopped foor coffee and cherry pie (with ice-cream, Martin had peach pie) along the way. Met up with the usual p[eople who expressed an interest in Stanley.
Motored along, enjoying the scenery, but how many ways can I say that the autumn colours are wonderful. The weather has been very kind to us, far from the forecast 20 degrees F, today was well above what we have been experiencing, to the extent we wondered why we had put on the radiator muffler!
Went through some Amish areas, hence the shot of the carriage. Plenty more photos, but most either miss the carriage altogether, or a lorry gets in the way. Thank goodness for digital cameras, the wasted shots can just be deleted.

Stopped in Uniontown, hotels here are expensive, more than we have paid in a long time. Walked out of the first one we tried, as we arent prepared to pay that price. However, even a cheap hotel is pricy here.

Miles 226

Martin's mealtime moment:

"So-the peach pie - is it available by the slice?"
"Well yes sir that price would be for a slice"
"I'll have a slice then"
"Would you like it warmed, with ice cream?"
At this the diner was visibly diminished.Gone was the customer's power over the supply chain. The dynamic had changed and the server knew now that she had the power.Failure comes at a price - but occasionally there is an upside. It was tough but somebody had to do it.
The surprise to me about the Amish community is that I thought it was aconcentrated in a small area but we must have travelled over 300 miles and have seen them at various times over that distance and yet we are not even near the point at which I thought they were gathered in  numbers.Maybe, given our recent and current worries about our environment and economies, they have got it right all along.Sobering thought
I never tire of seeing the variety and texture of these clapboard houses and towns. The communities seem also able to vote for their own judges and coroners. And who mows all the grass?Just so much to take in.
So - will Berlusconi go?Probably should- if you haven't got an answer shoot the clown.
We started the day with a Stanley service, checked fluid levels, tyre pressures etc.All under control.Tempting fate but The car has been absolutely brilliant.Goodnes knows whether we have been given correct information on whether the fuels we have been putting in actually do contain ethanol (potentially deadly to old engines) but we can still pull up hills and we keep rolling along.

Love the pics; .....the spectacular views of Chicago, and now the peaceful rural scenes, what a switch. ...... Hope you have time for Gettysburg. Enjoy

Hi Roger and Martin, So glad you enjoyed Chicago and the river tour. You are quite right, it is really an architectural tour of some amazing buildings and styles. When we did it over ten years ago, our guide talked non-stop too! Very interesting. All in all a great city and very buzzy. You can look forward to the Jazz and Blues next time .... xx

Excellent progress you're making, especially with the police! We live in fear of being pulled over for some involuntary infraction - keep your hands on the wheel!! Welcome to our world of expensive hotels in the North East and "closed for the season" - we've been the only guests in our hotel on several occasions! Very unnerving...See you very soon! xx
