The day hasn't gone quite according to plan.

We were going to go for a swim in the ocean this morning but it was raining and we were lazy so we slept in which is always nice.

We were going to check out a cool looking store called Arabesque but it was closed or non existant going by the address of the stores website.

To make ourselves feel better we decided to go wine tasting. There are a couple of famous, historical wineries located close to town on Church Road. The first place we went was Mission Winery, which was in a lovely old house and grounds (which used to be a monastery--the monks that used to live there were the first folks to plant grapes around here in the 1850's). We didn't taste there as it seemed to be very busy, but will go back there tomorrow for lunch as we wanted to eat there today but it was booked out. We then made our way down the road to Church Road Winery and enjoyed tasting several types of wine there. We particularly enjoyed Viognier.

We then were quite hungry and returned to town for lunch and the place we wanted to eat at was closed and had trouble finding the other place we wanted to eat at so we settled for a random cafe and waited ages for the food. Aron's pasta was really good, my sandwich as OK but wasn't what I was expecting.

We then decided we should make reservations for a nice dinner but called at least half a dozen places but they were fully booked! The friendly visitor centre guy told of us a good Thai place to eat and made reservations for us.

Since it was still raining, we went to the National Aquarium. It wasn't quite what you'd expect from a National Aquarium but was good enough to pass an enjoyable hour. (We may be jaded having been to some very nice aquariums).

We spend the rest of the afternoon wandering around downtown in a light rain doing a bit of geocaching.

We had a very yummy dinner at Thai Chef. They put us in a corner booth so it took ages for them to notice us and take our order but after that the service was excellent. We had prawn cakes, tom kha soup, alcoholic noodles, and sweet basil fish.

We enjoyed the fireworks show put on at midnight on the beach. You can see some of it in the video clips. Happy New Year!.
