April 15th
I was picked up early Wednesday morning and taken to a café in Midland to meet our new host families. We were greeted with lots of hugs and some coffee and crescents. My new host is Shirley who is quick to laugh and love. She is a wonderful woman. I went with her to the doctor's for a quick check-up, she got her nails done while I walked around the shopping center and then I went to Shirley's beautiful home and took a nap. We then had to present to some more Rotary Clubs that evening. On Thursday, we went to Midland Shire, a vineyard that sells table grapes, a chocolate factory, and an ice cream store. I had the best Watermelon Sorbet of my life. Shirley and her boyfriend took me to dinner to a fabulous Thai restaurant. We were the only ones in the restaurant and it was the first time while in Australia that had spicy food. It was wonderful.
Friday we went to the Caversham Wildlife Park. We were able to pet Koalas, feed and pet Kangaroos, hold a wombat and ride a camel. We then went back to Shirley's where she had a feast prepared for us and a birthday cake for me. The team was able to meet with two beautiful ladies who are a part of the WA team that is traveling to Tennessee on Monday. We were able to answer some questions for them and just get to know them better. Then the team just rested at Shirley's and she heated up some leftovers for dinner and we played Spades all night. The boys beat us, but they were cheating of course. Today we went to a water pump station (Mundaring Weir) that pumps water all the way to Kalgoorlie. Then the club dropped us off at a beautiful little house in Fremantle so we have can a nice 1 ½ day break. They will pick us up again on Monday morning.
