First day in Armenia
Entry 4 of 14 | show all | print this entry |
Hello all!
It has been one very long and eventful first day in Amenia!
We arrived safely in Armenia around 6am and now at 10:30pm most of the group is already asleep.
Today is Victory day which appears to be a cross between independence day and memorial day. we got to start off our day immersed in armenian culture by experiencing a celebration of victory day that which was rich with music, dancing, colors, and tradition. Next we joined a professional Armenian choir in putting on a concert in a community concert hall. The students and their parents enjoyed our music and the kids were very excited for an opportunity to learn to play the handbells at the end. After that we went to a school that serves predominantly handicapped children. there bianca, kristen, and i put on a puppet show that teaches about loving others even when they are mean or hurtful. then we handed out shoeboxes from the samaritan's purse ministry. Finally, we went to a memorial celebrating when armenia first gained independence.
exciting challenge of the day: an unexpected hail storm while enjoying refreshments with our hosts at the first concert
It is hard to believe we have been in armenia for less than a day and have already experienced so much! Please pray for a restful nights sleep so that we may be filled anew for whatever God has in store for us next! Thank you for all your love and support!
~Deborah Woo~ P.s. Those of you that know me will probably be surprised at the brevity of this entry. the computer lost my more detailed entry...oh well! =0

Hey Rufus, Is that you? Are you bassocubana? We are glad the men saved the day with the bus incident. But of course, God was that extra hand that kept you safe. Love, Mom

Hey folks! I keep falling asleep for the blog entry stuff, which is why this is my first entry. I must say, I love it here! I think I am an Armenian at heart! We are traveling around this great nation on a bus with a professional choir, and it is a more and more pleasurable trip as we interact with them. I have had the pleasure of getting to know a few pretty well now, using whatever languages (so... show all

We're Praying (reply) May 10, 2007 02:59 EST by vidavita
Our church in Santa Rosa and our family members are praying for all of you. Thanks for keeping us informed of what you are experiencing. The blog is our lifeline to you. Rufus, I hope you had a great birthday -- we love you. Thanks Donovan for giving the group this experience. Vida Olivier (Rufus' mom)

Thought I'd check this link out you sent us. You are missing a fire in Los Angeles up by the Griffinth Observatory, the Zoo and the Gene Autry Museum. Your prayers for my band worked. All but two people showed up to rehearse Monday, the concert is still on for the 20th.
Hope our prayers for your group are answered as generously. I assume more of the load than normal is falling on your conducto... show all
