Another eventful bus ride. With no brakes, the driver sticks in 1st gear with the handbrake fully on as we creep along the downward hairpins. Not only this but he was also falling asleep at the wheel! 7 hours later we arrive in one piece.
Luang Prabang is not cheap and we settle in a dorm for 35000kip each
We are staying at a strange place called Xayana Guesthouse. The rooms are clean but the staff are useless. They wouldn't give us a key to the room and instead leave it open for anybody to walk in and take our stuff. Along with this, we are still worn out from travelling and tubing and all we want is a shower, but they are extremely tight on letting us have water, hot or cold! 7 minutes is not long enough for 8 people to shower. It is the cheapest place in town by a mile so we deal with it.
We have a walk around Luang Prabang, the tourist hub in Laos. It is expensive and very clean with a curfew of 10pm to stop the drinking antics of neighbouring towns such as Vang Vieng. Everything seems rather fake and it is not really for us.
Of all the people, we bump into our friends from home, Matt and Seema. We arrange to have a drink with them later to share stories and plans. We decide to head back to Vang Vieng with them to do some more rock climbing and head south before north. However, we make a last second decision in the travel agent to continue heading north with Lee and Michelle and arrange to meet Matt and Seema in Thailand in April.
