Hi All,
This isn't really a mindblowing entry, but I would like to share one thing, maybe a few more...
So I have been CAMPING in a tent on safari, I have stayed in a small not-so developed town of Arusha in a bit of a less developed "lodge". I recieved ummm about 2 bug bites. I fly over to Zanzibar; beautiful island. I am systematically and slowly being eaten alive by all sorts of bugs, mainly mosquitos. Here is my story from last night:
- Since in Africa, Ern and I sleep in mosquito nets when we are at lodges/hotels. They all have them. So in our nice little room (by the way, our room in Zanzibar is something out of Casablanca or something. It used to be a sultan's palace and we have the North room. All open air, with wooden lattice doors to a balcony overlooking all of Stonetown; though the town is a bit rundown. We shower in an open large tub, al fresco. Good thing we are on the tallest floor) In any case, we close the netting and go to sleep. In the middle of the night, I wake up with 4-6 bug bites on my arms. I am so upset. I wake up Ernie and we try to find the bug, unsuccessful. I change my pjs to long sleeves and long pants. I put on bug repellant on my feet, hands and neck. I go back to sleep. I wake up with 2 bug bites on my forehead and 1 on my jaw!!!!
NOW here is the kicker. Ask me how many bites Ernie got!! GO AHEAD!! ASK ME!!!!!
ZERO! NONE! That critter feasted on me and left Ernie alone. Much like the little fish that bit off Jamie's mole in Cancun, I hope that mosquito is out there laying on the gutter and has been stepped on numerous times!!
Today was a rough start for me. I was not liking this place too much, but our spice tour cheered me up a bit. That was fun. We did not get to enjoy the beautiful beaches as that is about 1 hour away from us and its pretty pricey to get there so we opted to go to the spice tour on a farm, eat a delicious curry lunch, made from the spices. Yummy. And we are going to have a nice dinner again. The upside of Zanzibar is that the food is pretty good and the seafood is so fresh! I had grilled small squid salad (hmmmyummy) and Ern and I had a whole fish each. I had baked travelly (i wasn't too crazy about the travelly. It wasn't as clean and sweet tasting as I hoped) and he had steamed pili pili. Ern finished his fish. It was good.
I do wish we could put pictures in, but as of right now, down loading pics and all that is not possible in Zanzibar. We will try to put pics up in Egypt, but even that is doubtful as we are only going to be on land for short periods of time. So please feel free to use your imaginations and clear your March calendar for our slideshow series.
Of note, we really love getting your comments, and emails. Please keep them coming as we love to read them and get snippets of home.
Much love,
Aidess and Ern

Pleakley, are you!
Mim's said, 'Look! A mosquito has chosen me as her perch. She's so beautiful. Look, another one! And another one! Why, it's a whole flock! They like me! They're nuzzling my flesh with their noses! Now they're... they're... Aaaaaaaah!'
Re: Pleakley, are you!
A true, loyal Disney-ite, I see. Thank you, Minnie, quoting Lilo. I think you've seen that movie one too many times. :-)
I couldn't resist...
I just couldn't resist teasing that the critters are feasting on my bestfriend... Those critters are what spared planet E-arth by the Galactic Federation and the Grand Councilwoman of the Galaxy. Cummon' now!
Sweeter of the two
Just remember mosquitos like sweet blood, so you just can't help it that you're sweeter than Ernie. Sorry Ern! The mosquitos have spoken.
Sorry I have no Disney quotes... =)
Die fish die
Okay, we are just hating you right now. We are so jealous of your journey. Now, to set the record straight, the fish only had a piece of me. And I hope it's growing a third eye. I want to see pics of food... and bring home recipes to test out on us. Be safe and don't kill Ernie. Bugs will get to him later.
those malaria meds are wasted on him
our mom can confirm this for sure, but as far as i can remember, ernie has never EVER been bitten by a mosquito.....
oh but um don't stop taking the meds ern!
Re: Die fish die
