5 days until I leave for China...and I haven't even started to pack. Mom and I went to REI today and got lots of warm things, since the high for the majority of my trip shouldn't be above freezing. I have talked to friends who went to China last year, and they said to pack LOTS of warm things. I am so excited for the trip and seeing all the interesting things China has to offer. 
Heres what the itinerary looks like:
Monday 1/5 - Depart RDU 7:55 am for JFK in NYC. Depart JFK 3:30 pm for Beijing (Flight CA 982)
Tuesday 1/6 - Arrive in Beijing 6:00 pm. Check in Novotel Peace Hotel Beijing for 3 nights. Independent Study Day
Wednesday 1/7 - Mao's Tomb, Tian' An Men Square, Forbidden City & Temple of Heaven. Peking Duck Dinner 
Thursday 1/8 - Great Wall at Badaling, Summer Palace, and Beijing Olympic Venues
Friday 1/9 - Morning visit to local university in Beijing & tour of the Hongqiao Pearl Market. Depart Beijing 7:35 pm for Xian. (Flight CA 1205) arrive in Xian 9:25 pm
Saturday 1/10 - Terra-Cotta Warriors, Wild Goose Pagoda, Great Mosque/Muslim quarters and other sights
Sunday 1/11 - Independent Study Day
Monday 1/12 - Depart Xian for Chengdu, Afternoon tour to the Giant Panda Breeding Center
Tuesday 1/13 - Full day tour to Leshan by coach, visit to the Giant Buddha and a cruise. Return to Chengdu in the afternoon and tour the Duijiangyuan Irrigation System 
Wednesday 1/14 - Depart Chengdu for Lhasa 8:00 am (Flight CA 4401). Afternoon to adjust to high altitude (Hotel is 15,000 feet above sea level...yikes!)
Thursday 1/15 - Portala Palace, Jokhang Temple, shopping at Bhakor Street, Tibet hospital, lunch and dinner with cultural show
Friday 1/16 - Norbulinka (Summer Palace for Dalai Lama), Tibet Museum, Stone Monastery, Luc at Snowland Restaurant
Saturday 1/17 - No scheduled morning activities, depart Lhasa 4:05 pm (Flight CA 4111) for Chendgu, connecting flight for Lijiang departs 8:05 pm (Flight CA 4451)
Sunday 1/18 - Old town, Black Dragon Pool, Naxi Museum 
Monday 1/19 - Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with grand uplift to the Glacier Park, Black Water river and Baisha
Tuesday 1/20 - Tiger-Leaping Gorge, Shigu Village (to view the first bend of the Yangte River)
Wednesday 1/21 - Depart Lijiang for Kunming, Afternoon city tour & Minority Village (elephant riding is optional =)
Thursday 1/22 - Full day tour to the Stone Forests and Sani minority village visit. 
Friday 1/23 - depart Kunming for Shanghai, free day upon arrival
Saturday 1/24 - Private tour to the Bund, Yu Garden, Jade Buddha Temple & Shanghai Museum, as well as Shanghai City Planning Hall. Shanghai acrobatic show following dinner
Sunday 1/25 - Independent Study Day in Shanghai
Monday 1/26 - Depart Shanghai for Beijing at 9:30 am (Flight CA 933) then connect to return flight to JFK at 1:00 pm (Flight CA 981) Should be arriving into JFK around 2:30 EST, and will be back home by 7:30 pm
