Day 14 - Leaving Namibia

It was the fourteenth day of the tour and I was really starting to enjoy Africa. The unique environment, wildlife and culture were already adding up to a very memorable experience.
It was therefore with mild humor that I found myself racing through the morning routine and loading the truck with half a crust of break in my mouth. It was an important day and yes, even breakfast was cut short. But the rush was not to depart early for the Okavanga Delta, our next destination, but to the living quarters of our gracious camp hosts. You see, they had one of the few T.V.s in the area and we were all cramming around it to watch the most important broadcast of the month - the deciding match of the Tri-Nations Championship, the equivalent to the superbowl of rugby. And man, what a match it was! A great ending to the series. Of course, having a few Kiwis and South Africans in the room made it all that more meaningful. It was as good as watching any rival NFL game back home.
With victory claimed by New Zealand's All Blacks, we boarded Ella and head off to Botswana. It was an intense day of driving for our man, Walt. Time had been cut tight with the match and we had 4x4 trucks waiting for us across the border. Nonetheless, we made the journey on time and got everything we needed loaded onto the 4x4s. (Ella was too big for the Delta's tiny access roads.) After a few hilarious choruses we soon found ourselves at base camp. It was a simple place, but with (sometimes) hot showers, a lamp-lit bar and a local hippo herd, it had some very worthwhile qualities. The night ended with stories around the table and several tasty brandy drinks. Any excellent conclusion to any day.
