Day 3 - Fish River Canyon
Entry 50 of 73 | show all | print this entry |
After a late and well needed start to our day, we crossed our first border and headed into Namibia. No problems here - just a quick in and out.
A few kilometers down the road we stopped at a small tourist oasis in the middle of no where. We were at Ai-Ais, a natural hot spring turned swimming pool. A bit bizarre and nothing like the hot springs back in the jungles of Peru, but refreshing for many nonetheless.
And although the sun was shining with amazing strength, I didn't take part in the swim. I was too busy hanging my still damp laundry from the previous day's wash. Such a tedious thing to in the middle of a day's travels, perhaps. But with the a dry, desert heat blowing in it sure didn't take long for the clothes to get ready. I don't think I have ever dried clothes so quickly.
Lunch was had and we continued on our trek for the day. This part of Namibia is quite repetitive and, dare I say, boring. A rock here, some dirt there. Brown everywhere. You get the idea.

All that changes though once you crawl upon Fish River Canyon. As the world's second largest canyon, this place is simply impressive to see.

With the setting of another sun, we ended our day back at the campsite with cards and conversation. It was quite cold night for sleeping.
