It was a long day of driving to the border of Namibia. Cards were played. Conversation was light. Sleeping was heavy.
Our destination for the night was a campsite on the Gariep River. With a new country taunting me from across the water, it was too tempting not to jump in. With a new friend in hand, Karin and I braved the shimmering blue water together. And wow, was it ever freezing!
But not that it mattered. With numbness slowly setting in, there were other more important things demanding attention. The African sun was setting and the array of colors in the sky were growing. It was the first of many great sunsets. And with so much of Africa waiting, life couldn't have been better.
That night we had our first of two 'Punch Nights'. With lethal, sweet nectar flowing we sat around our first campfire and laughed the night away. It was an excellent start to our weeks of camping together.
