Rain, rain go away...
Entry 32 of 73 | show all | print this entry |
Like the school in Buenos Aires, there were daily and weekend activities here in Santiago for the students to enjoy; movies, dancing, excursions, etc. It was usually a good deal and price, so little consideration was needed in joining a weekend trip down to the southern city of Pucon. With a live volcano and two national parks in the area it had to be good.
We left late on a Friday over-night bus and arrived ahead of schedule early on Saturday morning. With nothing planned until later in the afternoon, a day of feasting and relaxation was decided upon. I was fortunate enough to join a group of five lovely ladies (Dawn, Jen, Sarah, Cara and Leslie) who cooked delicious meals for me all weekend long - an excellent decision I must say!

Later in the evening we hit the local thermal hot springs. What a treat! I had never been to something of this magnitude before, but I'm definitely a fan now. With multiple pools of various temperature and size, one can spend hours enjoying these natural delights.

Unforunately the weather of Pucon in the winter months is really, REALLY bad at times and we found the worst of it. For the remainder of the weekend we almost nothing but rain and wind. I was seriously waiting for tornadoes and thunderbolts to strike us down at some points. With some luck, we did manage to get out for a tiny bit of exploring one evening, but no major treks or activities were done.

In all, it was a very chill weekend filled with great food, laughs and hours of cards. I would undoubtable consider coming back, but only during the fair-weathered days of summer. There is still a volcano to be climbed!
