After checking into the Hostel Malka with it's amazing view of the city, we drift down to the local ruins of Pucara. It was easy to see why the people choose this location as the elevated position gave an excellent view of all positions. Not to meantion it's natural defenses.
The afternoon ends in perfect style with a beer, a playful dog and an amazing view from the hostel terrace.
We finish off the day with an excellent meal at Los Puestos. The best parillo I've had in all of Argentina. Period.
The next day we kick off our tourist trail with a short bus ride into Humahuaca. From there we grab a taxi and venture out to the ruins of `CoctacaŽ. Although there wasn't much to see of the ruins themselves (a bit disappointing), we did enjoy our protein bar breakfast as the sun crawled over the mountain. Oh... and they've got some nice cacti.
Our next stop for the day took us back south to the town of Purmamarca. From here we spent a good hour or two looking for transportation to the 'Salinas Grandes'. Eventually we paid a bit more to get a private taxi, but it was worth it. The winding ride through the mountains provided great views of the canyons below and the salt flats of the dried-up lake were quite amazing.
The day came to a close with another amazing dinner at Los Puestos. Being our last night in Argentina, we went all out and had two bottles of wine, mashed potatoes and three entres of meat: beef, llama and pork. All were perfectly prepared and we walked away the happiest tourists in town. :)
