To reach Cafayate Mark and I decided to take the first bus out of Tucuman instead of taking a late-night bus. This was an excellent decision and I definately recommend doing this leg during daylight. Not only was the scenery beautiful, but we also got to witness the daily morning routine for our route. You see, our bus was more than just a inter-city bus. It was also the rural school bus for children, the "local bus" when we arrived to a village and the newspaper delivery service for those in remote areas. Makes sense, but we were laughing everytime more people piled on or the paper was delivered. The children were VERY cute - just stared in wonder at us white gringos.

Once we made it into town, we locked in our biking plans for the next day and proceeded to Finca las Nubes, one of the smaller vineyards in the area. We had a nice tour and tasting and enjoyed the wine enough to grab a bottle for the 6k walk home. It was quite an enjoyable trip. :)

After another night of bife and hard rest, we awoke to begin our marathon bike ride down the Quebrada de Cafayate. What a great decision! We started the 46k journey with a bus ride out to `La Garganta del Diablo´ where we prepared ourselves for the long journey back.

The trip was packed with amazing vistas and we both loved traveling this way. It's a must do if your up for the challenge - such a great workout!

Cycling enthusist Mark had no problems, but I must admit fatigue and lack of hydration kicked in during the last few kilometers for me. (OH... and I managed to blow one tire and get a small leak in the other.) That said, we both completed the eventual 50k (~31 miles) into town with glowing smiles! Of course that may be due to the ice cream stand we saw awaiting our arrival. :)
