On Saturday we made a day trip to Cobh, which is a 20 minute train ride from Cork City. For those of you who don't know, Cobh is the last place the Titanic took off from before heading to New York and of course hitting a glacier and sinking. In Cobh there is the Titanic Experience, also known as the Queenstown Experience since Cobh was originally known as Queenstown. When you walk in you get a "ticket" with the name of an actual passenger that boarded from Queenstown. You go through the experience like you were an actual passenger, we were able to see the remnants of the actual port, rooms that were identical to those of the passengers and then watched a reenactment of the Titanic sinking. At the end you are able to go through the museum, where they have a model of the Titanic and where you also find out if the person you got in the beginning survived the sinking, mine sadly did not survive and he was only 20 years old. After the slightly depressing Titanic Experience, we went to St. Colman's Cathedral, which you are able to see anywhere in Cobh since it is on a hill. The Cathedral was very beautiful and when you walk to it you are rewarded with amazing views of the surrounding areas. When we were done looking at the Cathedral we got some coffee at a café and then headed back to Cork.
