Probably a result of one too many nights sleeping in the cold under the glaciers of the Cordillera Blanca, I arrived in Lima with an uncontrollable sneeze, and totally exhausted.

Staying in the ritzy area of Miraflores, I had two options: either get myself together and go see the Plaza de Armas (the name of the main square of virtually every single South American town), cathedral, museum etc. etc. - or invest in myself by doing absolutely nothing.  I chose the latter, first getting my hair done at a fancy salon in order to get all of the budding dreadlocks out my hair.  You should know that my boyfriend Chris was arriving that night from Toronto... I had to be recognizable!  I then hit the big Western-style malls, picking up a few things made by a cool Argentinian brand... already I could tell that my bank account is destined to take a hit in Buenos Aires.  Finally, my day of cultural immersion ended with a good, long sit at Starbucks with a Caramel Macchiado; I tell you, I had no shame!

I did witness one cultural event that was so adorable, I took a short video to share with everyone.  What you'll see is how every Sunday evening in Miraflores, older people get together in the main plaza to dance together and listen to a concert.  It's terribly sweet to see.

At about midnight that night Chris finally made it in from the day-long trip down to South America, and we were ready to set off on the next phase of our trip.
