Where I stayed
But the crowds don't detract from the awesome scenery. The Merced River cuts through a series of granite mountains, with waterfalls, wildlife and wicked views. We did a couple of walks- the second a trek up past 2 waterfalls, with an elevation gain of 1,000 ft. So three exhausted trekkers now!
We should sleep well in our heated tent, the most exciting accommodation of our holiday. Much roomier than we had imagined, 2 single beds and a double, one light and a whistle for attracting attention in the event of attack by mountain lion. All our food, drinks, toiletries and nappy bags are safely stowed into the bear locker as per instructions, although we didn't bother putting the car seat in as well!
A postscript. As we were preparing for bed, we had a knock on our door to say that our bear locker was open. Three raccoons had got in, and taken (of all things) an avocado, a box of chocolates, and a nappy bag. We retrieved the nappy bag, but there was only chocolate wrappers left of the rest.
