The trip down to Memphis was not that fantastic, the scenic route we chose was the Natchez Trace Parkway, after the Blue Ridge Parkway, it appeared fake and boring- too much mowed grass, trees planted to look impressive in fall, and roads designed to be curvy and picturesque, rather than naturally so. Probably a harsh assessment, but in the light of day, we would have been better on the interstate.
Arriving in Memphis we saw the largest river of our lives, the mighty Mississippi! But that was nothing, compared to the absolute paradise that is Beale Street, Memphis, two blocks fenced off to traffic, full of bars and similar venues with all kinds of music blaring, beer in plastic cups, and plenty of BBQ and pork ribs. What more could a warm blooded person want?!
Toby couldn't handle the loudest bands so we started with a soulful blues songstress in an Irish pub and finished with a scratch band in a local park. Can't wait for tomorrow in the home of Blues and birthplace of Rock n' Roll.
