The plan was to drop our bags in lockers at the station where we would catch our airport train and then head off to Shibuya. Unfortunately we only found one large unoccupied locker so had to schlepp Anton's bag with us. Anyway we managed to get on all the right subway and train lines and got to our destination.
Shibuya is a major shopping type district with streets lined with tall building all with flashing neon lights
. It was quite overwhelming for the senses to say the least. We thoroughly enjoyed just walking along the street and looking at all the shop windows and restaurants. We decided to pop into a spot for some noodle soup and gyoza. It was a delicious meal and a highlight was definitely the automated ordering machine. Basically you look at an onscreen menu, put your bucks in and press the pic of the meal you want. Then you get a little slip which you hand to the lady at the counter. A few minutes later she arrives at your table with a steaming bowl of noodles. So efficient and great fun. After that we started making our way back to the train station and picked up the bag from the locker. We then sat to wait for the airport express train. We got a bit antsy and hopped on the wrong train so had to hop off a few stations later and a kind lady told us to wait for the next train. Then we were off and got to the airport in good time.
Tokyo has been a fun adventure and we would definitely like to return to Japan for a few weeks to really enjoy all its treasures. There are so many amazing places for nature lovers with trails and islands to explore. We really only saw a glimpse of an aspect of Japan but definitely enjoyed it and its people. They are polite, efficient and very approachable.
We are looking forward to our next Australia leg and felt excited as we boarded to the plane to head back to Anton's university days 10 years after he left.
So for our last day in Tokyo we decided to go to the more modern district which is around the Shibuya station stop. We had a bit of a chilled morning packing up our stuff, sending emails and so on and then headed to the nearby grocery store to get some breakies and a small gift for Ankit. It's quite difficult trying to decipher the different items in the supermarket so we settled for a smoothie, iced coffee, raisin roll and egg and bacon roll. We grabbed some choc chip cookies for Ankit. We then locked up his place and headed for the train station.
