As we had to check out our apartment by 1100, we decided to go for a quick swim before packing up. On heading downstairs the apartment manager said we could stay in our room until 1330 - a great score. This gave us more time chilling at our favorite sea cliffs. We read, swam and relaxed until 1200, at which time we headed back to shower, pack, and read a little.

For lunch we shared a pizza at our best restaurant on one of the squares.

We then headed to the cable car to head up the mountain behind Dubrovnik. From the top we got stunning views of Dubrovnik, the islands close by and the surrounds. The area is mountainous as far as the eye can see.

Fort Srd (said Serg) is a Nepolionic Fort, 200 years old, which sits at the top of the cableway. It's strategic importance in holding Dubrovnik is paramount, and in the 1991 war was both key from a military and morale perspective, when the outnumbered and out gunned Croatian defenses held the fort.
In the fort is a museum detailing the city under attack. A very sad story and a heavy reminder of the atrocities that happen in our world.

Down the mountain we went to see the last of the main museums in Dubrovnik, the Rectors Palace. The rector was the elected head of state while for a term, and while appointed by nobles, was one of the first states, with Venice, to run as a republic with an elected head of state.
The palace was lovely and had exhibits of things from Dubrovnik's history.

Off to the gelato stand for the delicious ice cream you just can't stop eating. Yummmmm. We have been having them every day. Just delicious.

After dinner we headed of to catch the bus to the airport and our 1130 flight to Turkey.

Dubrovnik has been a stunning destination and we would recommend it to anyone travelling this way. It's quite different to anything we has seen before, and has a great range of things to see and do.
