Just under 4 hours north of Bariloche by bus, is the quaint town of San Martin de los Andes.

The town is nestled between two mountains and the streets are lined with flowering cherry blossom trees - just gorgeous.

San Martin is not as geared for tourists as Bariloche or Pucon as most trekking in the area requires a car (buses only run in summer). However, following the recommendation of the national park office, we walked the 22km along the lake and through the mountains to the small village of Quila Quina.

It was a fantastic walk and the perfectly clear and warm day made the ferry ride back to San Martin along Lake Lacar idyllic.
