Buckets and the Viking Chef
Entry 2 of 4 | show all | print this entry |
The things I've come to deal with... I can now piss in a squat toilet without getting any unusual substances on my feet
I no longer know what it is like to have a hot shower and the closest we have come is a semi luke warm one that only lasted 1 minute
I am a total breeding ground for mosquitos and my legs have the scars to show
Rats no longer put me off eating at a restaurant
We do not have the pleasure of flush toilets
If someone says it will be a 3 hour journey this means it will be either between 90 minutes and 9 hours
My limit is 12 buckets per night between 5 of us... all a bit messy Since my last e-mail a few weeks ago we have been tripping all over the place. Visited KL for a night and went to the twin towers, which were pretty impressive. Went to the small village of Kuala Selangor, where we had a treat at seeing fire flies by night and feeding monkeys at an abandoned lighthouse - the monkeys were all so cute until I tried to feed my little 'friends' some food and ended up in a fight with a mother, I was definitely winning, but decided to back down when she started hissing at me (I haven't had my rabies shot). Ant also thought it would be a great idea to entice the monkeys by our bungalow in the bush - we were soon prisoners in our bungalow with at least 10 monkeys circling our hut, the scariest with one hand sitting on the porch eagerly peering in. We parted from our friend Maria and headed for Taiping to make a trecherous 3 hour walk down a monstourous hill... this was meant to be fun... The most rewarding part was swimming with a Malay family in a pretty dodgy stream, and the father throwing his small girl in my arms to play with (scary). From here it was onto the island of Langkawi (still in Malaysia). The island was pretty cool, a few too many white english girls married to Malay men, but hey. There was definiately heaps to do but didn't spend enough time there as we wanted to get into Thailand. From Langkawi we then made a 24 hour journey on nine different forms of transport, one including a crazy motorbike canning it through the city and racing with Ants motorbike and another a mini van driver being a total lunatic, all of the people travelling with him feared for our lives - still here to write the tale though. Went to Kho Phanang for the full moon party... well the island is really nice, but most of the travellers that were partaking in the festivities - I'm sorry to say - were total losers! Wickedly though met up with my mate Cindy from London (yes FHA - our Cins) and partied with her for a couple of nights, I think both of us had somewhat forgotten what it was like to drink together and as you could imagine it was totally messy - lets just say all 5 of us were rolling drunk by 10pm and trying to swim in the ocean, whilst the other party goers were just beginning their night. Sadly didn't stay for the full moon party, we'd seen enough and partied pretty hard so headed for the island of Ko Phi Phi. Stayed there for a week and Cindy and her friends came over after the party on Kho Phanang... had a wicked time. Went out snorkelling and saw some awesome coral and fish and stuff. Ant was very delighted to throw bread at everyone (except me as I'm a sookie la la) which caused a feeding frenzy with thousands upon thousands of small little fish all around you - funny but scary at the same time. Ant did get his just deserves though as he was bitten numerous times by the offending creatures. Whilst on the island we also had the pleasure of our own back yard (literally) chef - known as the 'Viking Chef' armed with a plastic vicking helmet, whilst making chicken noises, very entertaining. Ant sucumbed to his vegetarian ways and ate chicken on a couple of occassions, I myself although very tempted stayed with eating the yummy fish and crabs (the sea kind) that were offer (okay I had a tiny mouthful of chicken, it does not count). We arrived in Bangkok this morning at 6am, another mad journey, to be greeted with a huge fire at a monastery just outside our guest house, can't say that I have ever seen anything like it before and talk about Thai time, the 'small' firebrigade took forever to get here. Thankfully we don't thik anyone was hurt and the fire was soon contained without damaging the whole monastery, but still a bit of a shock to the system. Not too sure of our plans from here, but I will be sure to keep you all informed. I'm sorry that this is so long but the internet has been really expensive the last few weeks (and I like to go on and on), so you have been graced with a double whamy. Thanks to everyone that has been writing, sorry that I haven't replied will get to it asap. Take care and till next time..
