Not use to travelling solo again without the big blue truck, we managed to get stupidly lost when we got off the train (map, what map) heading straight into deep suburbia and wandering aimlessly for 45 minutes. Thankfully a lovely local man came to our rescue and after waking his family to come and see the stupidly lost westerners, he delivered us to the door of our hotel - lesson learned: always have a map of your destination handy!
We spent 3 awesome days in Dubai, when not enjoying the comforts of our hotel, we spent maybe a bit too much time in Spinney's, an amazing supermarket with anything and everything your heart desired - all too expensive, but we loved window shopping.
We wandered the old town, caught abras (local ferry) across Dubai Creek to visit the gold and spice souks, finding local eateries where we had fun pointing at people's plates trying to order biriyani fish and accompanying vegetable curries.
We visited the Dubai Mall, the world's largest mall, wandering for hours over the many different levels and themed areas. Ant paid €80 (he almost cried) to go up Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building - impressive, but worth the exorbitant price, probably not!!
Over all too quickly, we packed our bags again for the last leg of our journey Malaysia and Indonesia.
