The Good

A caffeine addict's paradise! Coffee on EVERY corner and a few places in between. We are talking small, homey coffee shops - most set up like living rooms with books, sofas and a wool shrouded charm (I think only New Zealand can claim to have more sheep per capita than Iceland). Great places to hang out between cloud bursts. And NO Starbucks, anywhere!

Corrugated metal never looked so good! Yeah, I'm talking about the stuff we slap on top of our farm implement sheds in Canada, only to watch it go from grey to an uninspiring rusty brown. In Reykjavik, they use it as siding on many houses and buildings - often painted in bright colours - most certainly to contrast sharply with the gloom of the dark (and wet) Iceland winter.

Icelandic cuisine ! Kjötsúpa - meat stew, and Silungaterta (smoked trout pie)... wow! You can watch the video of my experience with Hákarl (fermented shark) on this blog page.

The Bad

You can eat and sleep expensively, or less expensively. There is no 'cheap' in Reykjavik!

The Ugly

Ha! Apparently ugly does not exist in Iceland. OK, so I believe that true beauty is more than skin deep, but holy schmoly these Descendants of Vikings are striking! Every day I pass about a dozen Orlando-Bloom-in-Lord-of-the-Rings and Uma-Thurman-in-Kill-Bill doppelgangers. (And yes I know Orlando and Uma are not Scandinavian, but you get the picture).

Oh, and the weather can be ugly. I took some hail on the dome yesterday... good thing I was wearing my ull hatt.
