Food - To say that I was a little apprehensive about the food here is an understatement. But, I have to honestly say that I have not had one bad meal and many amazing meals. Our philosophy has been to explore different corners of this beautiful town and if we find something that looks good we stop and go in. We look at menus all in Czech and just point to something. I had the most wonderful dish the other night, pork medallions in a peppercorn sauce with rosemary potatoes. There are so many little cafes, lunch counters and pubs serving food that I don't think we will be able to eat at all of them. And here is the best part, the meals don't cost much at all. I think the most I have paid for a meal might be 10 and that is because I had a couple of pivo's (actually beer is cheaper than water in most places, yes you have to pay for water)
Beer - Is what everybody drinks all the time. You order a "pivo" with lunch, if you try to order a water or "Voda" they just look at you.
Bread and Desserts - all I can say is OMG!!!!!
Globus - The Czech version of Walmart, only 10 blocks away. If you buy to much you just push your cart back to the dorm. The is a long line of empty carts.
The Crack - the Irish pub where everyone goes to celebrate St. Patty's Day and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.....
Transportation - The tram and bus system here is amazing. You can get anywhere and fairly fast to. Some of us decided to be brave and just jump on trams Friday just to see where they went. We found the train station, the large city park and a couple of other areas that we decided we would not be going back to that part of town.
The bathrooms - Their toilet paper is not the greatest. Its hard to find even soft paper even in the store. You also have to figure how they flush, it's interesting.
Walking - in the 6 days that we have been here I have walked nearly 20 miles (My IPod has a pedometer in it). Hopefully it will help keep all the bread and desserts from going to my hips.
I am going to TRY and post shorter entries, more often. letting it go for several days makes it too hard to catch up. We have three days of classes this week and then warhead for Prague and Dresden Germany
Later Taters!
