I think our Miami Vice would definitely have to be shopping.

Yes indeed – that's mainly what we’ve done since we’ve been here. Yesterday as you know by now I caught up on all my travel blog entries and then we finally got going and headed to a little café just along from the hotel called La Provence and had some brunch – the most delicious omelette!  We’d had a chat to the concierge about where the best shopping area was for toys – after all we have a total of five grandsons to think about – including one who has his birthday while we’re staying with them in Los Alamos and our eldest – that’s you Josh!! – who reaches double figures the day after we get back.  We had heard about Aventura Mall which is a massive shopping mall and after discussion with the concierge we had the option of taking the bus which takes an hour and costs $2 per person each way or taking a cab which takes 35/40minutes and costs about $45 each way.  We decided we’d take the bus and enjoy the scenery (and the people – there were some interesting ones!).  We’d a lovely afternoon there – got quite a lot of what we wanted – and also some that I hadn’t exactly planned on – these include a gorgeous Nicole Lee bag and then when we went into Sketchers – one of Craig’s favourite shops as he can always get good fitting shoes there.  However yesterday the salesman started off showing us these really lightweight running/walking shoes which I liked but I ended up getting a pair of walking shoes which are like absolute gloves – and given how much weight I’m sure I’ve put on this trip – and the fact that Merlin will be joining our family when we get back and will need lots of exercise and obedience training – I thought they’d be a great idea.   Then we headed back again on the bus – I took a few photos but the bus windows were all scratched and graffitied so if they seem a bit hazy that’s why.

We just had a quiet night in our room last night – enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and Craig shot across the road for a couple of takeaway burgers.

This morning there was some major reorganizing of suitcases – all these presents for grandsons had to be accommodated (and protected).  Then we headed back to La Provence for more of their delicious omelettes.  The concierge yesterday had told us about another shopping area where there was a Target so we enquired this morning as to how we could best get there – there was a possibility of bus then cab or just cab.  We opted to just get a cab there so off we went.  We’d a lovely time wandering round this massive Target – so much bigger than any I’ve ever visited in Australia – and we managed to get the last of what we were looking for, for the gorgeous grandsons!!  (Not giving you any clues Josh!).  There were a few other nice stores there which we checked out then we prevailed on someone in a shop to call us a cab – not many go out to this shopping area apparently.  We came back to the hotel and re-organised the cases yet again – think we’ve got it right this time.  We’d been given two vouchers from the hotel for a free cocktail so we thought we’d avail ourselves of that little treat and had two delicious mojitos in the outdoor area of the lobby.  Then we wandered down to the local shops again and came home with some more goodies – Tshirts, hats and reef shoes for Craig.  We’re now in our room having a little ale and thinking that tonight we’ll wander down the boardwalk at the beach and have dinner at one of the restaurants along there.  I had messaged Sarah Dundas (now Blanchard I guess) to see if they wanted to catch up as they are in Miami at the moment too.  I got a FB message back saying they were free tonight and she would message me her number – but I haven’t got it yet and so I think we’ll just have to reminisce about Miami when we get back to work – as we’ll need to have a fairly early night as  we’ve got a fairly early pick up tomorrow morning for the airport – New Orleans here we come!

Back soon
