I got attacked by a cow with very big horns today. Luckily she only got a hold of my shirt before I got out of there...

Sometimes I find cattle, mostly bulls that already gotten used to people and they won't play off or anything, in my yards; the yards that I use for the horses, either to feed or just to shift the horses outside or when I'm working on the horses.

They need sometimes to shift the cattle too, sometimes someone comes home from sale, or they need to bring bulls in for feeding for the sale or something like that, usually they shift them off to another yard, but I sometimes (well pretty often actually) find cattle in my yards not nowing of them. So, that means I have to shift them myself over to another empty yard that I don't need, if they are in the way, an dthey mostly are... (The yards at home are complicated like a labyrint, it's really difficult if you haven't seen it, and if I could upload some pictures I would, but the computer is so slow, that I probably won't try that anymore, we don't have any broadband here...I would have to get to a library.)

Well, usually it is very easy dealing with the bulls, they move wherever you want if you go behind them, but today they brought home some cattle from far off that haven't seen people that much, and they attack if they get annoyed...Well, I really knew that, but I was in a hurry, I was a little bit late this evening and wanted to get the horses fed, and get my job done. I didn't see anyone, I knew that they would probably move them later, but I couldn't wait for that, or I would never finish. (And I was probably getting a little bit cranky to see that they were in my way...) It was really a big amount of cattle in this middle yard, and I opened the gate to another yard, and it seemed very peaceful. They started moving themself into the new yard, but there were a few left in the bottom and I had to get around them to move them towards the new yard. I probably pushed that cow a little bit to much, it went in very slow motion I thought, and I just watch her slowly come up towards me, bending her head and trying to attack me with the horns. She was probably just telling me; " hey, don't you come here and try any bullshit with me". If she would have attacked me for real, she would have.

I climed out off the yard as fast as I could, went around on the outside, got a stick and very carefully moved the rest of the cattle with no further happenings. That was my action for today. I got a little bit more respect for these animals now. I mean it's really massive to see those big bulls, but they've been so easy that you don't really think about them as dangerous. Sometimes you can see them fight amongst them though, and that is now bullshit :-D

Otherwise we let the colts out for a run today. (The big bay in his own yard beacuse he likes to fight and show off to the other colts, and we wouldn't like any injuries...Tiger (He' s a little colt, but his got a lot of hormons going on) and Cashew stays together with Peanut and Addy and his mates, they will do fine as long as it's a big yard).

They normally stay inside in small yards, because of the ladies, but today we brought in all the ladies and let the guys out. They were really happy, running and rolling around.

I also got a little bit work done with the four two-year olds. These are fillys. One black turning white, she's got white hair in her coat, one roan, my favourite, one plain brown one, and one a little bit darker brown, also one of my favourites. They have been worked on before, but it's been a while, so it's almost like starting over again. As you see I got a lot of work. The good thing about it is that they are "my" horses, and I get free hands to do what I want with them. Good to be trusted that much.
