Firstly we're sorry about the lack of recent activity on our blog, we’ve been so concerned about Bella we haven’t really been in the mood to write on here and stuff (only so long you can spend describing yourself worrying anyway!). We have still been taking pictures and documenting the things we’ve been doing so will try to catch up a bit now.
Today we’ve had some very promising news about Bella and so we are feeling in slightly better spirits.
We’re in Kanchanaburi now which is about 3 hours to the west of Bangkok. Got another bus here which as I’m sure you have gathered by now is always a particularly unpleasant experience
We’re staying in a place called VN Guesthouse which has several rooms on dry land and several raft houses on not such dry land. We’re in the latter! It’s nice in a way being literally on the river as we have a small balcony area that provides us with uninterrupted views of the river and the jungle behind. However, being on a river as we are means that we are bobbed around every time a boat goes past (which is not a rare occurrence). It’s a slightly unnerving feeling, especially when in the shower or on the toilet haha! This experience is only made worse by Anna’s frequent cries of "Oh my God, we’re drowning!." Having seen a huge monitor lizard slink away under the raft this morning I can only hope that her pessimism remains unfounded!
We went to see the Bridge on the River Kwai this morning and whilst the attached museum (The Jeath Museum – not a typo) was a profoundly odd experience the bridge itself and its somewhat bloody history was quite moving.
Kanchanaburi is by far the nicest place that we have visited so far
To try and cheer ourselves up further still after our promising news we are going to have our feet nibbled by some little fish for half an hour in an effort to make the soles of our feet feel soft and youthful! (Anna took some convincing that she would not catch any number of as yet unnamed feet related diseases).
Miss you all ever so much and could we please ask you to think positive thoughts about Bella and a full recovery. Our thoughts really are with her at the moment.
Lots of love as always
