The Jomtien Twelve

So here we are at destination number two, Jomtien Beach! What a strange, strange little place. The bus journey here was fine despite another insane driver, I guess we'll get used to it before too long (The driving I mean!). We were woken from sleep at least four times by a blaring horn and the slamming on of brakes.

To make matters worse, we had a guy sitting behind us who decided to use the two hour journey to discover how many snorting noises he could make with his nose and mouth. The guy sounded like a bloody truffle pig!

After a short ride on a songthaew (see attached video) which is basically a pick up truck with some seats on the back) we arrived at our hotel. It’s a nice enough place and right opposite the beach. However, I think we are the only guests! Seriously we haven’t seen anyone else here. There is a restaurant in the lobby which is always completely empty with the lights off, we don’t hear anyone else walking/talking etc it’s very odd!

We found a very nice place to eat just up the road which in itself wasn’t easy to find. There are a lot of Russian restaurants serving Thai food, even the menus are in Russian! No Thai or English. Apart from the hawkers on the beach who seem determined to give Anna a massage and draw on my shoulder with henna, everyone seems to be ex pats of eastern European origin. Tanning oil must sell at a premium here! Not a nice image I know.

Today we went to the central festival shopping mall which was absolutely massive and had many pieces of home such as topshop and Dorothy perkins! Ha ha. We confirmed our trip to elephant world today (via email) and the guy replied asking us to bring some 'yellow bananas for our old elephants. You can feed them your selve.’ Yay! Very much looking forward to that next week in Kanchanaburi.

Just to put all your minds at rest we are no where near any flooding in Thailand, not sure if you’ve had that covered on your news at home or not.

Miss everyone hugely,

Lots of love
