Semana Santa (Easter) crossed my plans to head over the the Honduras Caribbean coast, the outlook of not finding accommodation and being blocked because busses don't run made me change my plans, booked a flight back to the Caribbean and took a bus from Copan to San Pedro Sula the last day they were running.
San Pedro Sula is the second largest city in Honduras and sort of the capital in the north, there is nothing to see and it's also supposed to be dangerous. Stayed in a hostel with the absolutely most helpful people ever.
Had a little shock when I opened my e-mail and saw a message from American Airlines that there was something wrong with my booking and I should call. Really didn't want to stay in this town. Fortunately I could use the phone at the hostel, but the person on the phone couldn't help, transferred me, next person also couldn't help because I have a Swiss credit card, so I should call Switzerland. Tried that, but much too late for Europe office hours with the time difference... And my flight was at 7 the next morning! Luckily AA have an office in the city, so ordered a taxi and went there, no problem, re-booked the flight, had an icecream which I found right next door, taxi back to the hostel and I was relaxed again, just spent some unnecessary money. And then realized that this really seems to be the most dangerous city I have been so far. There was security check to enter the AA office. There were security people at ever corner, even the icecream shop had one heavily armed in front of the door.
What else can you do? Go to a mall they recommended :-) So did I, it was full of security people again, bulletproof vests, machine guns and all, that's why they look scary to me.
Had some food, there is only horrible American style fast-food, too much, too greasy, too sweet, but once in a while it's ok but always feel a bit sick afterwards.
Went to bed early because like the fourth time in six days I would have to wake up at around 4am.
I had a wonderful time in Central America, without the slightest negative experience at all!
