Couldn't make up my mind about in which direction to continue.  Since I haven't heard anymore from my Panama friend (the BBF ;-) (that's an insider sry, like the smellevator LOL), the back to Panama and over to Colombia plan got deleted. For the east caribbean island hopping a lot of flying and in advance coordinating would have been needed, so ended up choosing the most logical option to continue travelling further north in Central America.
Finally booked a flight from Managua to Guatemala to save some travelling time.
Stayed in a modern relatively save area in Guatemala City, strolled a bit around and took a taxi to the other end of the city and did some sightseeing there as well. It's all very lively and crowded on a Saturday afternoon, so never felt unsafe, but the heavy armed policemen at every corner remind about the dangerous reputation of this (and probably most Central American) capital and after dark you are definitely not supposed to walk on the streets, other travellers already heard gunshots at night.
Went to a mall to check the movies, but there was nothing appealing at all, so I ended up wandering along the international shops and coffee chains, their specific artificial sweet smell somehow transfers me into the international no-mans land escape I started to enjoy when travelling through cities.
